  •

  • A closeup (cropped version) of my photo of the maiko.

  • This is the airplane that I took from Detroit to Osaka on Nov. 3.

  • The biology buildings at NAIST -- this is where I work.

  • My computer (the first one -- I'm moving around a bit).

  • Plans for our trip to Kyoto.

  •

  • Me with members of Prof. Mori's lab at an izakaya (bar & restaurant) in Nara.

  •

  • Some food at the izakaya. I think this was liver from a fish -- I forget which type of fish...

  • More photos at the izakaya.

  • This is the izakaya that we ate at, as seen from the exterior. The name of the izakaya is "Uogen". The direct translation is "the origin of fish", probably the meaning is something like "the best fish Izakaya (Pub)". I strongly recommend this place to anyone visiting the Nara area.

  • Finally we are leaving the izakaya for the evening -- we're among the last people out.

  • This is the "guest house" where I'm staying. It's on the NAIST campus, and a quick 5 minute walk from the labs.

  • This is the kitchen area of my room (to the right of the door).

  • From the kitchen looking the other direction towards the windows (taken while standing in front of the door).

  • These are the beds, to the right of the previous picture, also in fron to fthe windows.
